Curiosities
- The Aperitif in the Clouds takes place on the Panoramic Tower of Albaretto della Torre, a small town in the province of Cuneo. The tower has been incorporated into the town's name since 1862. It is but the remaining part of a larger fortified complex, built by Manfredo Del Carretto in the 14th century, taking advantage of the excellent position offered by the hill of Albaretto. In 1630, during the war for the succession of Monferrato, it was demolished by French artillery. The tower remained and remains the most interesting and monumental part of the whole.
- The castle was home to Count Camillo Benso, who experimented with new winemaking techniques thanks to the 230 hectares of vineyards and became mayor of Grinzane Cavour for 17 years. In 1844, it was in the castle cellars that the first glass bottle of Barolo was bottled, marking the birth of the king of wines or the wine of kings. Today, the castle is home to the Enoteca Regionale del Piemonte and the Ordine dei Cavalieri del Tartufo e dei Vini d'Alba. In the area around the castle, an educational trail dedicated to the history of wine called 'Museo In Vigna' was also inaugurated.
